Adam Zango’s musical album, Mailaya, is the most patronized musical album in northern Nigeria’s musical market, since Naziru Ahmed’s “Sardaunan Dutse Musical Album” four years ago, the industry’s marketers say.
A major marketer in Kawo market, Kaduna, Haruna Maikaset, said he has distributed more than 40,000 copies of the records in one day.
“I cannot say exactly the number of copies I sold since the release of Mailaya Album. But I have been in this business for about 11 years, and I think in the last two years I never sold more music like this one this year. And it is the same even in Kano, Katsina and Bauchi. They all come here to get the CDs,” Mr. Maikaset said.
“I think Adam sang better and was actually connecting with the youth more than any other musician in the north. So he gets more of the demand and attention now.”
Marketers in Kaduna confirmed the huge sales.
“Adam connects with the youth more in his music than any other musician in the north. Another singer is Sani Danja who also is doing really well,” said Saminu Muhammadu, who has a shop in Kaduna central market.
The album has 13 tracks. According to the marketers, buyers’ favourite songs are “Ringin Ringin” and “Gambara”.
Hassana Dalhat, a Kannywood film and music promoter, says the album, which was released in May 2016 by Zango’s musical production company, White House Records, is the most sought-after album in the last 40 days in northern Nigeria.
“I have cause to relate with film and music sellers in the north because of what I do basically. In my research, which I essentially did in Kano and Kaduna, the hub of Kannywood industry, the request for ‘Mailaya’ album was way high than any other musical album released in recent time,” he said.
Actress Rahama Sadau says, “Adam sings to your soul and humbles your emotions. His songs calms and puts you in a reminiscing mood. His songs are like gospel, penetrating into you and giving you lead to what life is all about.
His songs talks about societal ills and how to correct them. He is a great singer and actor,” Sadau said.
